Coupons
A code the customer types to get money off. You decide the code, the discount, and the rules around it.
In plain words
Like a paper voucher, except you print it instantly and you can switch it off again. WELCOME10 might take 10% off a first order.
A coupon is used on purpose by the customer. If you want a discount that happens automatically, you want Tier Pricing or Conditional Rules instead.
Where to find it
In the dashboard menu, open Marketing → Coupons.
Make one
- Click Add coupon.
- Code — what the customer types. Short, in capitals, no confusing characters.
- Discount type — a percentage (10% off) or a fixed amount (5 off).
- Usage limits — how many times in total, and how many times per customer. This is what stops one code being shared with the whole internet.
- Dates — when it starts and when it stops working.
- Countries — where it is valid. Leave out the countries where your margin cannot take it.
- Save.
Always set an end date, even a far one. A forgotten coupon with no expiry is the most common way merchants give away margin for months.
Managing them
- Each row shows the code, the discount, the dates and the countries.
- The row menu edits, duplicates or deletes a coupon. Duplicate is the fast way to make a second, similar code.
- Import an
.xlsxfile to create many at once; export the current list to a spreadsheet. - Coupon performance — who used what, and what it cost you — is under Analytics → Coupons.
- Coupon names and descriptions can be translated for your other countries; see Translations.
Deleting a coupon stops it working immediately, including for customers who were about to use it. If you only want to pause it, set its end date to today instead.
