POS Receipt PrintingBeta
Automatic POS receipt printing is still in beta
We're still testing it, and we can't guarantee yet that every feature works correctly on every computer, tablet and printer. Before relying on it at your counter, try it with your own printer and a few test sales, and keep a way to print receipts by hand. If something doesn't work as described, contact Trapyfy support.
Print each sale's receipt on your receipt printer automatically, with no print pop-ups. This page shows every way to set it up, on Windows, Mac and Android, so you can pick the one that fits your till.
In plain words
This is how the till prints a paper receipt. You connect a receipt printer, choose the template, and the printer does the rest. Still in beta.
Which option is for me?
| Your till | Use | Setup |
|---|---|---|
| Windows computer | POS App for Windows (recommended) | Easiest: install, pick the printer (USB, network or Bluetooth), sign in |
| Android tablet | Kiosk App for Android, showing the POS (recommended) | Install the app, connect the printer (USB, network or Bluetooth), set its page to the POS |
| Windows or Mac, in Chrome or Edge | Silent printing in Chrome or Edge | A special shortcut, and the receipt printer as the default printer |
| Windows or Mac, in Firefox | Silent printing in Firefox | A Firefox profile for the POS and one setting |
| A USB receipt printer, in Chrome or Edge | USB receipt printer | Connect the printer once in the POS. Best on Mac and Android |
Not ready for any of these? The POS works as before: Print opens the receipt as a PDF and you print it from your browser's print window.
The POS with automatic printing
Automatic printing is part of the new version of the POS, at https://www.trapyfy.com/pos/v2. It's the same POS as the one in the dashboard, with a printer icon at the top (to the left of the store and register picker). The two apps open it for you; for the browser options below, open that address yourself.
The printer icon sets how this device prints. It's saved on this device only, so each till can print differently:
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Print dialog (PDF) | The default: the receipt opens as a PDF, as before. |
| Silent printing (Chrome, Edge or Firefox) | Prints to the computer's default printer with no pop-up, once the browser is set up (Chrome/Edge, Firefox). |
| USB receipt printer | Sends the receipt straight to a USB printer (setup). |
| Trapyfy Kiosk app (Android) | For the POS in Chrome on an Android tablet that has the Kiosk app (setup). |
- Paper width: 80 mm or 58 mm, for the silent and USB options.
- Print automatically after each sale: prints as soon as a sale is completed. Without it, the Print button prints with no pop-up.
- Print test receipt: checks the setup before your first sale.
Silent printing in Chrome or Edge
Chrome and Edge print with no pop-up when they're opened with a special option. You make a separate shortcut for the POS with that option, so your everyday browser isn't affected.
Make the receipt printer the default printer
Windows: Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners → your receipt printer → Set as default. Turn off Let Windows manage my default printer first if it's on.
Mac: System Settings → Printers & Scanners → Default printer → your receipt printer.
Also set the printer's paper to the receipt roll in its printing preferences (for example 80 × 297 mm or “Roll paper”).
Make a POS shortcut (Windows)
Right-click your Chrome (or Edge) shortcut on the desktop → Copy, then right-click the desktop → Paste. No desktop shortcut? Start menu → right-click Chrome → More → Open file location, and copy that one.
Right-click the new shortcut → Properties. In Target, click at the very end (after the closing quote), type a space and add:
--kiosk-printing --user-data-dir="C:\TrapyfyPOS" https://www.trapyfy.com/pos/v2
Click OK, then rename the shortcut, for example Trapyfy POS.
Or, on a Mac
Open Terminal and run (for Edge, write Microsoft Edge instead of Google Chrome):
open -na "Google Chrome" --args --kiosk-printing --user-data-dir="$HOME/TrapyfyPOS" https://www.trapyfy.com/pos/v2
Run the same line whenever you start the till.
Open the POS from the shortcut and sign in
It opens in a separate Chrome window with its own sign-in, so sign in to Trapyfy once there.
Set up the printer icon
Click the printer icon → Silent printing (Chrome, Edge or Firefox), choose the Paper width, turn on Print automatically after each sale, then Print test receipt. It should print with no pop-up.
Silent printing in Firefox
Make a Firefox profile for the POS
Type about:profiles in Firefox's address bar → Create a New Profile → name it Trapyfy POS → Finish, then Launch profile in new browser.
A separate profile keeps silent printing away from your everyday Firefox.
Open the POS and choose the printer once
In the new window, open https://www.trapyfy.com/pos/v2 and sign in. Click the printer icon → Silent printing (Chrome, Edge or Firefox) → Print test receipt.
Firefox's print window opens this time: choose your receipt printer and click Print. Firefox remembers it.
Turn on silent printing
In a new tab, open about:config → Accept the Risk and Continue. Search print.always_print_silent, choose Boolean if asked, and set it to true.
Check it
Back in the POS, Print test receipt again: it prints with no pop-up. Turn on Print automatically after each sale in the printer icon.
To open the POS later, open Firefox's about:profiles and click Launch profile in new browser under Trapyfy POS.
USB receipt printer (Chrome or Edge)
Chrome and Edge can send receipts straight to a USB receipt printer, with nothing else installed. Firefox and Safari can't.
Plug in the printer
Connect the receipt printer to the computer or tablet with its USB cable and switch it on.
Connect it in the POS
Open https://www.trapyfy.com/pos/v2, click the printer icon → USB receipt printer → Connect USB printer, pick the printer in the list and click Connect. You only do this once.
Test it
Choose the Paper width, click Print test receipt, and turn on Print automatically after each sale.
POS in Chrome on an Android tablet
The simplest way on Android is to show the POS inside the Kiosk app (see Run the POS on the tablet). If you prefer to use the POS in Chrome, the Kiosk app can still do the printing in the background:
Install and set up the Kiosk app
Follow Kiosk App for Android up to Connect your printer, then set its Kiosk page to https://www.trapyfy.com/pos/v2 and leave Lock this device to the kiosk off. This also allows trapyfy.com to print.
Choose the app in the POS
In Chrome, open https://www.trapyfy.com/pos/v2 → printer icon → Trapyfy Kiosk app (Android) → Print test receipt. If Chrome asks to allow access to other apps or devices, tap Allow.
Troubleshooting
The print window still opens
Chrome or Edge: the POS must be opened from the special shortcut, and every Chrome window from it must have been closed before (the option only applies to a fresh start). Check the shortcut's Target ends with --kiosk-printing --user-data-dir=....
Firefox: check print.always_print_silent is true in the profile you're using (about:profiles shows which one is in use).
In the POS, the printer icon must be set to Silent printing, not Print dialog (PDF).
It prints on the wrong printer
Chrome or Edge: receipts go to the computer's default printer: set the receipt printer as default.
Firefox: receipts go to the last printer used in that profile: turn print.always_print_silent off, print once choosing the receipt printer, and turn it back on.
The receipt is cut off, tiny, or followed by lots of blank paper
Set Paper width in the printer icon to your paper (80 or 58 mm), and the printer's paper size in its printing preferences to the receipt roll.
“No USB printer connected”
Check the cable and that the printer is on, then the printer icon → Connect USB printer again. On Windows, see the warning under USB receipt printer.
“Can't reach the Trapyfy Kiosk app on this device”
Open the Kiosk app once so it's running, and check its Kiosk page is on trapyfy.com (or add trapyfy.com under Other websites allowed to print).
“The printer isn't responding. The receipt was saved…”
That's one of the apps: the printer is off or unreachable. The latest receipt prints by itself when it's back; older ones wait in the app's printer settings. See the Windows app or Kiosk app page.
